Since Disney announced the new Disney Genie, Disney Genie+ and Lightning lane we have had more questions than answers.
This is what we do know:
1-Disney Genie is a free service for Disney guests. It is designed to help you maximize your time in the parks by knowing when to go to what attractions.
2-Disney Genie+ is a paid service. Currently, $15/day/person at Disney World and $20/day/person at Disneyland. We do not yet know what attractions are included and which are not. You will also have special music options, add-ons for photopass and access to select rides on lightning lane.
3-Lightning Lane-This will be in 2 parts really. Part one is the paid portion of Disney Genie+ and part two will be paying for select rides. These rides are anticipated to be the top one or two rides in each park. No fee amount has been advised at this time.
4-It is supposed to start this Fall at both Disney World and Disneyland.
5-No discounts for Disney Annual Passholders or in Disneyland Magic Key holders.
6-If you buy with a Disney package you must purchase for the entire group and trip length. But, if you have a regular theme park ticket you can buy by the day and for select people in your travel party. That being said you must have in order to take advantage of the Genie+.
7-The Fastpass and Fastpass+ system is retired.
8-It is part of the My Disney Experience App that is current used so no new app is needed to be downloaded or used.
This probably is very confusing and it is. I feel that this almost created more questions than answers to this “magical” system. Looking forward to sharing the updates with you.
